Lady Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was originally conceptualised as a gift from France to the United States of America, as a token of their friendship after the American Revolution. Dedicated on 28 October 1886, the Roman liberty goddess holds a flaming torch above her head with a warrior-like look upon her face. Broken chains lie at her feet as she marches forward in commemoration of the abolition of slavery and Declaration of Independence.
Over the years Lady Liberty has come to represent the freedom and independent democracy of America, which has lead to her global recognition as a symbol of hope.
